1924 Born in Skidmore,
Missouri on May 12 to Frank and Nellie (Collins) Barrett.
1944 Served
in the United States 8th Air Force in Europe and was the recipient of
the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross while serving as a
navigator on a B-17 Flying Fortress.
1946
Marries Darlene Nera Ornee on June 1.
1948
Earns a Bachelors Degree from Drake University. Wins the Iowa
Federation of Music composition competition with "Nocturne" for concert
band.
1949
Earns a Masters Degree from Drake University.
1949
Became a faculty member at St. Cloud State University and was band
director for 18 years, music department chairman for four years, and
music theory and composition professor until his retirement. He ia also
a member a Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Pi Kappa Lambda, Kiwanis, and the VFW.
1952
Becomes Director of the St. Cloud Municipal Band.
1956
Composes the words and music for the M.E.N.C. Golden Anniversary March
which is premiered at the national convention in St. Louis in April.
1961
Earns a Doctorate Degree from the University of Iowa.
1965
Resigns as Director of the St. Cloud Municipal Band.
1984
Retires from faculty position at St. Cloud State University.
1993
Inducted into the Minnesota Music Educators Hall of Fame.
1995
Dies on Monday, March 20 at St. Cloud Hospital .
